Baseball’s Opening Day Results In A 12-2 Win

Monday was Opening Day for the Chandler-Gilbert Baseball team who hosted Arizona Christian University and used an 8-run 4th inning to solidify its first win of the season.  The Coyotes scored in the second, fourth, and seventh innings on their way to a 12-2 showing against the Firestorm.

In his 12th season at the helm, Coach Russell Luce started a veteran group around sophomore pitcher, Aaron Makil, who made his first start of the season.  Makil struck out four in three innings pitched.

"Effort and preparation with this group is above the norm and they love to compete together," said Luce.  "It was fun to be on the field with them."

The bats were swinging for the Coyotes, lead by CF Tristan Peters who earned himself three hits and scored two runs, with a run batted in.  Also big for the home team were RF Garret Thornton with two hits and C Mike Jones with three RBI.

This is the first of a 10-game home stand for the Coyotes.  Next up for Chandler-Gilbert is a weekend tilt versus GCU Club on Friday and Saturday.  Both games slated for 6:00 p.m.
