(RV) Thunderbirds Pick Up Statement Win At Chandler-Gilbert

CHANDLER, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds grabbed a big road win Saturday afternoon at Chandler-Gilbert, defeating the Coyotes by a final of 78-54.

With the victory, Mesa; who is currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Poll, improve to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) play. The T-Birds have now won five straight games and swept the season series with Chandler-Gilbert. With the loss, the Coyotes fall to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

The T-Birds outscored the Coyotes in each quarter during Saturday's road win. After taking a seven-point lead at 37-30 into halftime, MCC would begin to hit the gas in the third quarter and never looked back.

Mesa more than doubled up Chandler-Gilbert 26-12 in the third quarter on their way to their fifth straight win. The T-Birds shot 42% from the field as a team in the win.

Three players scored in double-figures for MCC, led by Taylor Tiulana's 20 points off of the bench on 6-of-14 shooting; five of her 10 makes came from behind the three-point arc. Stacey Begay also chimed in with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

The road doesn't get any easier for the T-Birds, as they remain on the road for a Wednesday tilt at ACCAC DI foe Arizona Western. The Lady Matadors are currently ranked 18th in the latest NJCAA DI Women's Basketball National Poll.
