PUMAS SEASON ENDS ON DAY TWO OF REGION I TOURNAMENT

Game 1: #1 PC 12, # 7 PVCC 2

Late Score Costs Pumas Against Bears

The #7 Pumas lost the lead late in a 12-2 defeat to #1 PC in game one on Friday. 

The Pumas struggled to contain the high-powered offense of PC, giving up 12 runs.

In the top of the sixth inning, PV tied things up at two when Ryan Romero hit a solo homer.  The game was tied at two with the Bears batting in the bottom of the seventh when a first pitch single score two runs. 

Phoenix went on to score five runs in the eighth inning solidifying their lead.

Colton McIntosh was on the pitcher's mound for the Pumas. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over six innings, striking out six. Danny Carpenter and Michael Keevins entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively.

Derek Wood went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead PV in hits.

 

Game 2: #4 CGCC 12, #7 PVCC 8

Despite 13 Hits Pumas Lose to Coyotes

The #7 Pumas bats were strong against #4 CGCC in the second game on Friday, but it wasn't enough as PV fell 12-8. 

Despite the loss, the Pumas did collect 13 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, the Coyotes had 11 hits on the way to victory.

In the first inning, The Pumas got their offense started when a double by Noah Burgarello scored two runs. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Coyotes tied things up at two on a two-run double.  

Chandler-Gilbert pulled away for good with five runs in the fifth inning.

The Pumas notched three runs in the ninth inning. Jager Straub and Ryan Romer each drove in runs in the frame.

Colby Davis was on the mound for the Pumas. The righty went four and a third innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out eight. Zach RogersJonathan Hyman, and Brady Welch each contributed in relief for PV.

Romero, Straub, Tyler McCaughey, and Burgarello all collected multiple hits for the Pumas. Romero went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead PV in hits.
