PUMAS GRAB LEAD IN THE SEVENTH INNING FOR VICTORY OVER CHANDLER-GILBERT

The #7 Pumas defeated #4 CGCC 7-6 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. With the win, the Pumas advance in the winners bracket in the double elimination round one of Region playoffs. 

With CGCC up 1-0 heading into the third, the Pumas scored five runs in the third inning on hits from Jesus Moreno, Noah Burgarello, Jager Straub, and Ryan Romero.

Despite falling down by four runs in the third inning, CGCC tried to fight back.  The Coyotes scored five runs in the failed comeback in the sixth. 

The game was tied at six with the Pumas batting in the top of the seventh when Straub singled on an 0-1 count, scoring one run.

David Enriquez started the game for the Pumas. The righty lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out one.

Logan Birch pitched the Pumas to victory. Bitch replaced starting pitcher Enriquez when he left the game in the second due to injury.  The pitcher surrendered five runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.  Brady Welch and Danny Carpenter entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the win.

The Pumas totaled 10 hits on the day.  Straub, Jacob Paige, and Romero each had multiple hits for the Pumas with Straub leading the team going 3-4..  

The Pumas will be back in action on Friday afternoon against #1 Phoenix College at 2:00pm.
