PUMAS WIN GAME ONE IN DRAMATIC FASHION, SPLIT WITH CHANDLER-GILBERT

Game 1: CGCC 7, PVCC 8

McCaughey's Walk-Off a Picture Perfect Ending in Puma Victory Over Coyotes

The Pumas defeated CGCC 8-7 on Tuesday thanks to a walk-off single.

Things got started early with both teams putting up runs in the first.  The score was 2-1 Coyotes heading into the third. After CGCC scored one run in the top of the third, the Pumas answered with one of their own when McCaughey scored on a fielding error. The game was tied at seven with the Pumas batting in the bottom of the seventh when Tyler McCaughey singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. The Pumas collected eight hits and the Coyotes had four. 

Colton McIntosh started the game for the Pumas. McIntosh allowed four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five. Zach Rogers got the win for the Pumas. The pitcher surrendered one run on zero hits over one inning, walking one. Danny Carpenter and Brady Welch entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game.

The Pumas totaled eight hits. McCaughey and Derek Wood each collected two hits to lead the Pumas.

 

Game 2: CGCC 5, PVCC 3

Pumas Fall to Coycote After Seventh Inning Runs

Tuesday's game against CGCC was a heartbreaker for the Pumas, as they lost the lead late in a 5-3 defeat. The game was tied at two with the Coyotes batting in the top of the seventh when the Coyotes homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.  The Pumas answered in the bottom of the eighth with one run but could not make up the deficit.   

David Enriquez toed the rubber for the Pumas. The righty allowed eight hits and four runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight. Brady Welch, Logan Birch, and Danny Carpenter each contributed in relief for the Pumas.

The Pumas totaled eight hits in the game. Isaac George and Brayden Graham each had multiple hits for the Pumas. George led the Pumas with three hits in five at bats.
