Women's Soccer opens home schedule with 9-0 win over Chandler-Gilbert

YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer (2-1, 1-0) opened up the home portion of its schedule with a 9-0 win over Chandler-Gilbert (1-1, 1-1), scoring seven first-half goals on Saturday evening at Matador Soccer Field.

Ashly Martinez, Risui Arasaki, and Jesmin Castellanos all scored twice as the Lady Matadors set a season-high with nine goals to earn their second win of the season.

The Lady Matadors opened the scoring in the 2nd minute as Castellanos scored her first of the game which was followed by her second just six minutes later to put the Lady Matadors up 2-0.

Arasaki scored her first goal in the 19th minute to push the lead to 3-0. Martinez scored her two goals back-to-back before Loegan Alia scored her first collegiate goal to make it a 6-0 lead. Rikako Hayami added the Lady Matadors' seventh goal with a header just before halftime.

The Lady Matadors added two more in the second half thanks to goals from Arasaki and Alexis Ostos Sanchez.

Keepers Tindra Biedermann, Tiany Melendrez, and Rebecca Sargent combined for the clean sheet, keeping Chandler-Gilbert off the board for the second shutout of the season.

The Lady Matadors return to action on Tuesday, September 5, heading to Mesa to take on the Thunderbirds in ACCAC play at 4:30 pm.
