SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH CHANDLER-GILBERT

Puma Softball (2-2) traveled to Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday where they split with the Coyotes.

Game 1: PVCC 8, CGCC 7

The Pumas built a five-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off CGCC's charge for an 8-7 victory on Saturday. The Pumas earned the victory despite allowing the Coyotes to score four runs in the seventh inning.

In the first inning, the Pumas got their offense started when Emily Viramontes doubled, scoring one run. The Pumas then notched three runs in the fifth inning, Eviana Varela and Maegan Viramontes each had RBIs in the frame.

Dawn Morris got the start for the Pumas. The lefty surrendered six runs on eight hits over six and two-thirds innings.

The Pumas racked up 12 hits in the game. Jazlyn Romero, Briana Govea, Emily Viramontes, and Maegan Viramontes each collected two hits. The Pumas were sure-handed defensively and didn't commit a single error. 

Game 2: PVCC 1, CGCC 9 (5)

The Pumas fell behind early in game two and couldn't come back in a 9-1 loss to CGCC.

The Pumas struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Coyotes, giving up nine runs. The Coyotes took the lead early in the first inning when they scored on an error. They then tacked on five runs in the second inning to extend their lead.

Holly Myers led things off on the rubber for the Pumas. The righthander allowed six hits and six runs over two innings. Jazlyn Romero threw two innings in relief.

Emily Viramontes, Eviana Varela and Taniyah LaDrigue all had one hit.
