Thunderbirds Travel To Face Chandler-Gilbert

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbird men's and women's basketball teams will hit the road Saturday afternoon, for a pair of matinee games at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The women will get things started at 2 pm, with the men to follow at 4 pm.

Women's Basketball:

Saturday's clash pits the (RV) Thunderbirds (12-6 overall, 7-4 ACCAC); who are currently in first place in the ACCAC DII Women's Basketball Standings and are Receiving Votes in the latest NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Poll, against Chandler-Gilbert (7-11 overall, 3-5 ACCAC); who currently hold the four seed in the DII standings. Mesa is coming off a mid-week blowout victory of South Mountain, 67-36, and has won four straight games. The Coyotes lost last Saturday at Phoenix College and have dropped four of their last five games. Earlier this season Chandler-Gilbert visited MCC and fell to the Thunderbirds 93-74 back on December 1. In that game, the T-Birds had five players score in double-figures, led by Jayla Johnson's double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Men's Basketball:

The Thunderbirds and Coyotes are two teams who are trending in different directions. MCC has lost two straight and five out of their last six games; entering the game 4-11 overall and 2-8 in ACCAC play. Chandler-Gilbert is 15-7 overall, 6-6 in ACCAC action, and is coming off a mid-week win against Scottsdale. The Coyotes currently sit in a tie for first place with Glendale atop the ACCAC DII Men's Basketball Standings, while Mesa sits in last place in the DI standings, a game behind Eastern Arizona. When the T-Birds and Coyotes met back on December 1 in Mesa, it was a nailbiter until the very end. CGCC claimed a last-second victory, on a Kasey Ruiz jumper with four seconds left in overtime, to take the 72-70 road win.

Both games on Saturday will be live-streamed by Chandler-Gilbert, you can watch the games live online by visiting the CGC Athletics YouTube page here: https://bit.ly/3rTVmqi
