Baker has double-double and Oldham adds 20 points as No. 18 Men's Basketball trips up No. 11 Chandler-Gilbert CC

The Pima Community College men's basketball team (16-3, 8-3 in ACCAC) handed Chandler-Gilbert Community College (17-2, 10-2) just its second loss of the season on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

  • The No. 18 ranked Aztecs gained a bit of retribution after beating the No. 11 Coyotes 83-64. Pima had loss the previous two meetings earlier this season.
  • Up 48-42 with 14:11 left in the game, the Aztecs turned to freshman Gabe Oldham and sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS), who scored all the points in Pima's 10-2 run to give them a 58-44 lead.
  • Freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) found his range in the second half as he went 4 for 5 from downtown to help keep the double digit lead intact. The Coyotes made it interesting cutting Pima's lead to 67-59 with a little over four minutes left but Baker's free throws and Gonzales' back-to-back three-pointers helped seal it.
  • The Aztecs led 35-32 after the first 20 minutes of play, which saw four ties and six lead changes.
  • Baker scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half. He was 1 for 5 to start the game but finished 4 for 8 from the field in the second half. He was also a force on the glass as he completed his double-double with 10 rebounds. Baker also had five assists and two steals as well as being 10 for 12 from the free throw line.
  • Oldham went 8 for 13 from the field and closed out the game with 20 points to go along with nine rebounds.
  • Gonzales scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half as he was 6 for 11 from beyond the arc for the game. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • Sophomore Toate Sika (Rincon HS) was 2 for 4 shooting and 5 for 6 from the foul line as he added nine points off the bench. He also had three steals, two blocks and two rebounds. Sophomore Jaylen Alexander also had nine points.

The Aztecs are on the road for the next two games as they first play at Phoenix College on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
