Yotes Win the Day

Yotes Win the Day

Chandler, AZ-- With so much going on at CGCC, it's kind of hard being Coach Bry, Fletcher B, or Steve Silsby...On Saturday afternoon four different Coyote teams were in action including the Yote Softball team participating in their home opener. The softball team hosted a doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern College and won the first game 3-1 and the second game 12-4. Jolee Benson went yard and had three RBI plus Grace Tinsdale, Amme Benson, Jordan Williams, Daysy Juarez and Alina Arjon each contributed RBI in the winning effort. The softball team advances to a record of four wins and two losses early in the season.

Both basketball teams were in action Saturday afternoon at the Coyote Center as well, with both the Men's and the Women's team cruising to victory over the visiting Cougars of South Mountain Community College. The Yote basketball teams were three for three against the Cougars this year, as they completed the season sweep on Saturday. The Women's team got the momentum rolling with a 65-47 victory behind 23 points from Mya Way who went 5-6 from 3-point land. Steph Da Silva had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Men's team then took care of business with a 94-65 win. Andre Harris had a huge game with 35 points and 10 rebounds, Lachi McKain also added 13 points. The Men's basketball team has only lost two games this season, both to ranked opponents on the road. The 23-2 Yotes are in first place and primed to make a deep postseason run.

Both basketball teams play on the road Wednesday at Glendale Community College.

In other news...the baseball team was unlucky on Saturday losing 6-5 to Mesa Community College in 13 innings. Their record is 7-4.

Athletic Direcotor Russell Luce said about the busy day, "A big shout out to our athletic training staff again for managing so many games in one day, they get stretched thin and step up every time. The Yotes won the day today and we are ecstatic about the direction all of our teams are heading in for the remainder of their seasons."
