Chandler, AZ-- The number 16 ranked CGCC Coyotes hosted the number 2 ranked Scottsdale College Artichokes in what was a showdown between the two premier volleyball programs in the conference, and perhaps one of the best inter-conference matchups when it comes to two highly ranked teams on a national scale in the entire country.
The Coyotes came out focused and driven in the first two sets winning 25-17 and 25-23, it looked as though a sweep of the defending National Runner-Ups was about to take place. However, the visiting Artichokes regained their own focus winning set three 25-18. The fourth set was a thrilling match that saw no lead bigger than two or three points in either direction. It ended in a 26-24 win for Scottsdale. The final set was also a 15-11 Scottsdale win which resulted in the visiting Artichokes taking the match.
The Coyotes took one of the best teams in the country to the brink of failure but were not able to get over the hump. Their next match is tri-match amongst conference opponents on Saturday, September 30th against Pima and Mesa. The action heats up at the Coyote Center starting at 11 AM.
