Yotes Baseball Comes Up Short of Championship
May 15, 2023

Chandler, AZ-- The number two seed Coyote Baseball team entered the NJCAA Region 1 Championship series after overcoming Paradise Valley CC in Round 1. Their opponent, the Glendale College Gauchos who secured the 4th seed only after a technicality, but played well enough to defeat their Round 1 opponent as well. The two teams faced off on the Coyote home field with a trip to Enid, Oklahoma on the line and a shot at the NJCAA World Series at stake.

Game 1 on Thursday afternoon was a 4-2 win for Glendale as the Coyotes were never able to get much going offensively. Their struggles behind the plate continued the next day as they lost again this time 12-3. Glendale College made the necessary plays to win both games and will be representing the ACCAC at the World Series.

Despite the tough loss, Head Baseball Coach Jon Watson should be proud of his young men as they came within a few innings of the Region 1 Championship for the second year in a row. His strong incoming recruiting class and positive momentum will undoubtedly result in reaching the mountain top sooner rather than later.

Jacob Anderson was a bright spot for the Coyotes all year and earned All-ACCAC Second Team Honors as well as Division II All-Region 1 recognition, joining his teammate Tate Lewis. Patrick Morris, Ben Hoshizaki and Dante Turgeon each made the Division II All-Region 1 Second team.
