West and Way Lead Coyote Comeback

West and Way Lead Coyote Comeback

Chandler, AZ-- The Coyotes hosted Park University Gilbert on Friday evening and struggled the majority of the game to get any sort of rhythm. This contributed to a six point deficit entering the 4th quarter. Sluggish play was a result of this being there third game of the week and second game in as many days. However, all of a sudden two dynamic freshman guards answered the bell and got hot. Alana West began attacking the basket at will and had 12 4th quarter points, they simply could not stay in front of her. Then, when the Park team was in the penalty, Mya Way took control and calmy made six 4th quarter free throws as she put the pressure on the officials to make calls when she drove the lane. Timely rebounds by Aisha Ashley and Shiryl Yazzie in the final minute of the game helped diminish any hope the visitors had of tying the game late despite their best attempt at heoric play themselves.

West, a local Williams Field High School product finished with 21 total points and Mya Way, by way of Mesquite High School totaled 19 for the game. These two local products representing prep programs in Chandler, and Gilbert shined bright for the Coyotes in a tightly contested match.

The Coyotes are 3-1 early on the season and their next game is on Saturday the 18th when they host Glendale College at 2 PM. This is the first game of conference play. Go Yotes!
