Volleyball Knocks off Ranked Conference Rival
Aug 29, 2022

Chandler, Arizona-- CGCC Volleyball came in to the season ranked 17th in the nation in the preseason poll, five spots behind the 12th ranked ACCAC rival Glendale Community College. Although CGCC won the conference title last season in 2022, it was Glendale who defeated the Coyote team in the conference tournament to earn a trip to the national tournament. As fate would have it, the two teams opened up their seasons against one another on Glendale's home court.

In what was being billed as a battle of the titans, with two of the top three ranked teams in the conference and nationally ranked opponents going head to head, it was the visiting Coyotes that came away with the win in three straight sets. This win for CGCC will now create a major power shift in the rankings and puts the rest of the conference on notice to watch out for the Coyotes.

For her strong effort over the weekend, Kylie Wong was named ACCAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Coyote Volleyball program followed up that big win with a win at the Coyote Center over Justice College in the teams home opener. The Volleyball team record advances to 2-0 on the young season as they prepare to travel to Tucson to matchup with Pima College on Tuesday September 6th.
