Spring Doesn't Mean Break for Baseball and Softball Teams

Spring Doesn't Mean Break for Baseball and Softball Teams

Chandler, AZ-- There is no such thing as Spring Break for the Chandler Gilbert baseball and softball teams this March, not when both teams are about halfway through their seasons and both competing for a spot in the playoffs. The Softball team has faced a gauntlet of a tough schedule including a large number of Division 1 teams. Their record sits at 8-17 but are coming off a huge 14-1 win over Gateway College on Saturday afternoon. Sydnee Edwards was sensational on the mound giving up only two hits in five innings. Corinne Collins contributed at the plate with three RBI. The softball team is a resilient bunch and will surely round into shape for the second half of the season.

The Coyote baseball team has a record of 15-12, sitting three games above .500 including winning their previous two contests. Dante Turgeon is having a strong season batting .407 with five home runs so far this year. Patrick Morris has been leading the charge for the Yotes on the mound with a 2.38 ERA in 35 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts so far on the season.

Both teams have experienced coaching staffs behind them who will undoubtebly get their teams into shape and put them in position to make a long playoff run. Both the CGCC Softball and Baseball teams finished as Region 1 Runners-Up in 2022.
