Men's and Women's Hoops Win Home Opener

Chandler, AZ-- Both the Men's and Women's Basketball teams tipped of their seasons with their first home games of the year on Friday evening at the Coyote Center. The Women's team played first against Benedictine University Mesa and was able to pull away late to eventually win 82-64. The game stayed within a four or six points in favor of either team throughout the first 34 minutes of play but a late fourth quarter push by the Coyotes propelled them to victory. Shiryl Yazzie and Steph Da Silva each had 10 points for the Yotes and Mya Way was on fire coming off the bench hitting six three pointers to finish with 23 points.

The Men's team opened up their season against NJCAA Division 1 opponent College of Southern Nevada. The Men's team jumped out to an early lead and despite the visitors cutting it to a two possession game with only a few minutes to go, the guys finished strong and won 81-66. Andre Harris lead all Coyote scorers with 23 points plus 8 rebounds in the post and Jakub Lloyd came off the bench strong to contribute 12 points.
