Men's Hoops Beats 8th Ranked Pima

Chandler, AZ-- The CGCC Coyote Men's Basketball team started off the season 14-0 and earned the right to be the 18th ranked team in the nation, but fell on hard times losing three games in a row. Despite playing tough competition in those games, the Coyotes fell out of the top 25 shortly before their highly anticipated matchup with Pima College, the 8th ranked team in the country, on Wednesday night at the Coyote Center.

The Coyotes proved they can compete amongst the best teams in the country and should be deserving of more national recognition with a convincing 89-64 victory. The Coyotes built a double digit first half lead but the visiting Aztecs fought back in the second half and gave the Yotes a run for their money; however a late 3-pointer from Slick Nik "The Ruler" Atanasovs sealed the deal for the Coyotes. He finished with 22 points. Kingdom Artis had a strong game with 14 points and Jalen Johnson contributed 12 points including three 3-pointers.

The Men's Basketball record is now 15-3 as they prepare to take on Eastern Arizona College on Saturday afternoon.

In other basketball news, the Women's Basketball team hosted the 12th ranked Pima College Aztecs and lost 68-57. Sam Sibbet poured in 23 points but otherwise cold shooting plagued the Yotes. Their record is now 7-10 and they also prepare to take on undefeated Eastern Arizona College on Saturday afternoon.
