Men's Basketball Keeps it Rolling over Roughriders, Women Lose in OT
Dec 12, 2022

Chandler, AZ-- The CGCC Men's Basketball team kept their record without a blemish with a 75-52 win at home over the visiting Yavapai Roughriders. Yavapai College, who restarted their basketball program this year, hung with the Coyotes in the first half but appeared to run out of gas midway through the second half.

The Yotes were lead by an incredibly balanced scoring attack with multiple players scoring in double figures. This shows the depth and strong teamwork of Coach Silby's squad. Isaiah Somers had 19 points and was a perfect 9-9 from the field, Josh Coker hit four 3-pointers to total 12 points, Slick Nik "The Ruler" Atanasovs had 13 points down low and Jalen Johnson had 10 points for the Coyotes.

The Men's basketball team record now advances to an undefeated 10-0. Their next game is Sunday the 18th at 8 PM vs. Williston State.

The Women's team suffered another tough loss Saturday afternoon losing to Yavapai 78-71 in overtime despite leading by 12 points late in the second half. Steph Da Silva was hot to start the game and finished with 20 points. Mya Johnson came on strong to chip in 17 points including three 3-pointers.

Coyote Women's Basketball is now 4-6 and 2-3 in conference play. They host the Park University JV squad on Thursday night at 7 PM and also play Williston State on the 18th at 6 PM.
