Jeff Nelson Wins 500th Game
Sep 26, 2023

Chandler, AZ-- The CGCC Volleyball traveled out to Eastern Arizona College on Monday September 25th in what appeared to be another ACCAC matchup. However, what many people did not know, was that there was a lot riding on the game for Coyote Head Coach Jeff Nelson. Nelson was sitting on 499 wins, one shy of a landmark accomplishment. Fortunately for him, his team delivered with a resounding 3-0 sweep win over the host Gila Monsters.

Before taking over the CGCC program, Nelson has made coaching stops at multiple Division I schools such as the University of New Mexico, the University of San Francisco and Texas Tech University as well in the pro ranks with the Minnesota Monarchs.

He has spent time as an Assistant Coach at Nebraska, the University of Minnesota and at Arizona State University. Nelson played at Ball State University where he helped lead his team to the Final Four.

Russell Luce, CGCC Athletic Director said, "We are very proud of Coach Nelson, he has done incredible things throughout his career and in his short time at Chandler Gilbert. Considering the fact that most collegiate volleyball teams only play 25 games or so in a season makes him winning 500 that much more remarkable."
