Four Coyotes Win Conference Player of the Week

Four Coyotes Win Conference Player of the Week

Chandler, AZ-- Four CGCC Coyotes were named Arizona Community College Conference Player of the Week for last week, all for strong performances on the court and field. For this to happen to four players from the same school in the same week is an incredible accomplishment and rare feat.

Steph Da Silva of the Women's Basketball team won her first POTW award of her career and first for the team this season. Da Silva earned her first honor of the season, scoring 36 points and averaging 7.5 rebounds for the Coyotes last week. Da Silva scored a season-high 24 points, hitting five three-pointers, in a 69-55 loss to Scottsdale on Wednesday and then scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Coyotes’ win over South Mountain to finish the week on Saturday.

Andre Harris of the Men's basketball team won his fourth POTW of the year! Harris scored 62 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a pair of Coyotes’ wins last week. The sophomore scored 27 points and went 13-for-14 from the free throw line while grabbing 11 rebounds in a 76-68 win over Scottsdale on Wednesday before finishing the week off with a 35-point performance on 14-of-19 shooting with 10 rebounds in a 94-65 win over South Mountain.

Jolee Benson and Ahjaida Solomon opened up the softball season with their first recognitions, certainly there will be more to come. Benson went 7-for-12 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run while driving in four runs in three Coyotes’ wins last weekend. Benson went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and a homer while driving in three in the Coyotes’ 12-4 win over Colorado Northwestern on Saturday. Solomon threw a season-best 7.0 innings and matched a season-high with five strikeouts while holding Colorado Northwestern to just one run on six hits in the Coyotes’ 3-1 win over the Spartans on Saturday.

CGCC is in a unique category of it's own this week and will no doubt continue to compile the awards throughout the rest of the respective seasons.
