Coyotes With Conference Win Over Cougars

Chandler, AZ-- The Coyote Women's Basketball team snapped their losing streak with a pivotal conference win over the visiting South Mountain Cougars on Wednesday evening. The game was incredibly close for its entirety until a 9-2 run in the final 90 seconds of play by the Coyotes earned them the win. The final was 52-49. Down five with roughly two minutes to go, a corner 3-pointer from Sam Sibbet off the drive and kick from Tianna McKinley, followed by a defensive rebound and coast to coast drive for the And-1 from Sibbet gave them a one point lead. Another defensive rebound lead to the huge top of the key 3-pointer from Steph Da Silva that gave the Coyotes the 3 point lead. With 7 seconds to go the Cougars drew up a last second potentially game tying play but was thwarted by the strong and clutch defense of the Coyotes.

Sibbet lead all scorers with 21 points and added 11 rebounds. Steph Da Silva contributed 7 crucial points and Julianna Horne controlled the pace with 7 assists at the point guard spot. The Coyotes are still in the playoff hunt with an ACCAC record of 4-8.

The Men's basketball team did not have the same fate as the Women did in a 66-58 loss to South Mountain College earlier Wednesday evening. Cold shooting and low energy plagued the Coyotes however they still remain atop the standings with a conference play record of 8-4. Both teams prepare to host Mesa Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Coyote Center. Men tip off at 2, followed by the Women's game at 4.
