Coyote Cagers Gobble Up Gauchos

Coyote Cagers Gobble Up Gauchos

Chandler, AZ-- ACCAC play began with both Coyote basketball teams hosting crosstown rival Glendale Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Coyote Center. Both Coyote teams emerged victorious and begin conference play at 1-0.

The Women's team played the first game of the doubleheader but started off sluggish and were down 31-26 at the half. However, the Coyotes seem comfortable in these uncomfortable spots as two of their previous three wins come when the team has trailed at halftime. A fourth quarter comeback got started with about six minutes remaining in the game when Alana West drove the baseline and scooped around the bucket for a sweet reverse layup. West had a solid all around game with 9 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal. The key defensive stop in crunch time was a steal from Steph Da Silva that proceeded a coast to coast layup on the other end was what put the nail in the coffin of the Gauchos. Da Silva finished with 15 points to lead all Coyote scorers. Aisha Ashley (pictured) also contributed 11 points. The Coyote Women's Basketball team won 67-56 and is 4-1 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Men's basketball team played after the women and rolled to a 95-64 shellacking of the visiting Gauchos to remain undefeated on the year. The Coyotes got up early and never looked back. Their tough, physical and relentless defense especially in the first half, powered them to the big win. Andre Harris came off the bench to lead the Coyotes with 19 points. Super Sophomore Justin Fisher had 17 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Marvelous Marlon Landingham, in his first action as a Coyote played... marvelously going 4-6 from the floor to total 15 points off the bench.
