Baseball Team Sweeps Post Season Awards

Chandler, AZ-- The CGCC Coyote Baseball team, with a record of 33-20 earned the number 2 seed in the Region 1 Playoffs taking place this weekend. Because they had such a strong season, numerous members of the team were awarded for their strong performances throughout the year. 

Jake Wrubleski was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region 1. The catcher hit .416 this year and had 22 extra base hits. Jacob Anderson, a pitcher, was named First-Team All-ACCAC as well, he threw 93 strikeouts on the year. Ben Hoshizaki rounded out the First Team selections after he led the ACCAC in runs scored and stolen bases. 

Ryder Hancock, Daniel Hutchison and Blake Tigges each were named Second Team All-Region. Hancock, a fan favorite among Coyotes everywhere had 50 hits and scored 40 runs this year. Hutchison started 9 games and won 8 of them on the mound for the Yotes and Blake Tigges had a solid year with a .337 average including 11 doubles. 

Easton Bryant, the first baseman and left fielder for CGCC was named ACCAC Player of the Year. This is the third Coyote this school year to be named ACCAC Player of the Year in a respective sport. Bryant joins Kennedy Dastrup of the Volleyball team and Andre Harris of the Men's Basketball team to win the award. Bryant led the league in batting average (.429) games played, hits, triples, RBI, and total bases. He was second in plate appearances and third in At-Bats and doubles. He truly had a remarkable season at the plate. 

After almost a decade being a rock for the CGCC Coyote Baseball program, long time assitant coach Mike Campbell was named ACCAC Assistant Coach of the Year. Campbell helped run the offense for many years and was a great help to former head coach Russell Luce and current head coach Jon Watson. Campbell has helped Coach Watson lead the Coyotes to three straight playoff appearances. This honor is well deserved and long overdue for Coach Campbell. 

The Coyotes host Paradise Valley Community College in a best of 3 series starting Thursday May 2nd, first pitch is at 3 PM. The winner of the series will advance to the Region 1 Championship. Go Yotes!
