Baseball Team Falls Short of Championship

Chandler, AZ-- The Coyote baseball team entered the Region 1 Championship series as the number 2 seed and was prepared to take on the 4 seed Gateway Geckos at home for a shot at the Region 1 title. Despite winning Game 1 of the Best-Of-Three series, the Yotes lost Game 2 and that set up the epic Game 3 showdown on Saturday afternoon.

The Coyotes got down 10 runs after a disastrous 4th inning but clawed their way back tying the game in the 8th inning as they showed tremendous fight and grit. The visiting Geckos scored a run in the top of the 9th to go up 15-14 and the Coyotes were unable to make another miracle happen in the bottom of the 9th. Gateway beat the number 1 seed and the number 2 seed both on the road en route to their Region 1 Championship.

"The future is bright for Coyote Baseball, Jon Watson has done a tremendous job and we could not be more proud of how hard the guys played this year and all that they accomplished throughout the season." Russell Luce, Coyote Athletic Director said.

The Coyotes have so much to be proud of as they finished the season with a record of 36-23 with multiple players being recognized as All-Conference performers plus the conference Player of the Year in Easton Bryant and the Assistant Coach of the Year in Mike Campbell. This is the third straight season the Coyotes have played in the Region 1 Championship series.
