Men's Basketball Record No Longer Unblemished, Women's Record Back to .500
Jan 9, 2023

Chandler, AZ-- The Coyote Men's Basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon against perennial power, Arizona Western College 81-72. The typically high scoring Coyotes scored almost 15 points below their average despite Isaiah Somers and Kenny Haynes connecting on three 3-pointers each. The overwhelming size of the visiting Matadors was a bit too much to overcome for the Coyotes. However, a record of 14-1 is nothing to be mad about as this is the best start in the programs history since Steve Silsby took over as Head Coach. The Coyotes prepare for a road game against a highly ranked Scottsdale College team on Wednesday night.

The Women's basketball team took on the defending ACCAC Champion Matadors on Saturday afternoon as well and gave them fits throughout the game but unfortunately, the ball just didn't quite bounce their way enough times to pull out the win. Mya Johnsons 19 points carried the Coyotes including her late 3-pointer with 35 seconds left to make it a three point deficit for the home team. But clutch free throws for the Matadors sealed the deal. Coyotes lost 62-56. They too prepare for a big matchup with Scottsdale College on Wednesday night.
