Basketball Teams Win on Opening Night
Nov 2, 2022

Chandler, AZ-- The CGCC Basketball teams opened up their regular season with a double header against the Benedictine University Mesa reserve teams on Tuesday night. The Men played the first game of the evening and proceeded to rout the visiting Redhawks 98-44. Contributions came from everyone on the team as the Coyotes lead by close to 30 points at halftime and continued to dominate throughout the second half. The 44 points allowed by the Coyote defense bodes well for this season as veteran Head Coach Steve Silsby understands defense is what wins championships, although offense sells tickets. Nearly putting up 100 points means they are focused on both offense and defense this year!

In the prime time slot, the Women's basketball team opened up their season with an 87-64 win over the visiting Redhawks. Mya Johnson lead all scorers with 17 points. Taylor Johnson, no relation, paced the team with 12 rebounds and 10 points. Sam Sibbet had a near double double with 10 rebounds and 8 points and the low post tag team presence of Acacia Byaus and Siarra Beck each had 11 points.

The Men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday the 3rd against Ottawa University at 7:00 PM.
